World of Torrents
The history of computer piracy begins at the same point where idea of computing began. When Americans were projecting first computers, Russian spies tried everything they could to steal American ideas. When first projects and first programs were being created, there were already people who we would call “computer pirates” – and those were times of Second World War.
Piracy appeared first on a political and military background, after some time it came to masses. When commercial computers started being distributed, that was real full bloom of computer piracy. Back then in IT history everything was much simplier so breaking programs was an easy job for people who knew programming. Also – nobody heard about “copyrights”.
Now – pirating is like a race. Resourceful crackers do every magic they can to break protections that coders implemented. Online activations, DRMs, accounts banning. Crackers have few options they can choose from. They may try to fight with activation systems, to get around security systems, to make program work offline without losing functionality. It’s very very tricky.

Sail to the port and… catch syphillis
From our – users perspective – we don’t need to know how does the software works. The most convinent way to equip ourselves in programs we need for study, for work – is to download it from somewhere and to crack it. When we download Photoshop, we’re not thinking how does the crack work. Only thing that matter is that we want it to run and serve us. And often it does but…
If you’re interested in topic of computer security, you’ve heard about all those ransomware plagues, you’ve heard about those large botnets used to DDoS popular services (LulzSec for the funniest), you’ve heard about all those great personal data leaks. And you can’t be sure, maybe your personal data is already sold and cruising around the darknet? Your name and surname. Your address and birthdate. Your debit card and name of your dog…
That’s because viruses nowadays aren’t here to break your computer. That’s unprofitable, people on Pirate Bay would have reported such .torrent at once. Now viruses work stealthly, you wouldn’t really know that they appeared on your PC. And think about it – which way of creating botnet would be easier than delivering people desired crack that needs admin privileges to work? And – let’s make it a time bomb – comments on Pirate Bay would be greateful and thousands of people would download infected crack. Activate it some time after they infect themselves. Business man, business.

Tradition of suck-cracking
In times of Windows XP there was a little war between two ways of preparing pirated system to work. Many of my buddies loved “cracked .ISOs” – they just booted it from CD, USB, installed and system’s ready. I wasn’t even commenting that often those touched versions of Windows included needless programs but… without comparing checksum you can never know what’s inside of your Windows. And it really could be EVERYTHING.
I wouldn’t have balls to log into my bank account on such Windows version. I had my own approach for preparing PC. I’ve been using clean Windows disk images. Only after the installation I searched for newest activators and turned them on. Of course – I couldn’t be sure how does the activator works and what changes would it make in my system. But that was… a little bit safer, it was only one shit I was installing, not the whole package of shits and ads.
But there was a third way. You could’ve used neither touched .ISO or suspicious activator. You could fuck official Microsoft activation process. There were many tricks people were doing with “phone activation”, there were also cheap serial codes from less-developed countries that let you activate system and download updates without any problems. It was much more safer than using cracks (except the situation, when you’ve written this crack yourself :D).

Piracy slowly going dead
It’s worth to mention that piracy is getting tough these days. Companies are fighting to make getting access to pirated copies harder. Warez, torrent sites are being deleted, people who run those webpages are getting caught. Network providers keep track of our internet usage and thanks to big data analysis they know well when we are downloading pirated content.
Even if we have a good downloading source – piracy culture is getting weaker. It’s much harder to find new versions of desired programs than it was few years ago. That’s because many great crackers turned into white hats or got hired by great IT companies that pay very good dollar. They don’t have time to play with cracking now. Also there are many good free alternatives for expensive software so people see no more need of downloading illegal soft.
We have year 2019 now, let’s take Adobe package for an example. In previous years there wasn’t so much problem to activate any program from their package. There was a feature called “offline activation” that let us bypass serial key verification. That method was quite simple and very effective. But you’d ask – what happened? This year Adobe blocked offline activations so online activation is only possible method now. Of course that’s not the end of pirated Adobe versions but if you’re looking for Photoshop at this moment, people on forums rather recommend you to download 2018 version.

Keys from good sources
Cracking programs also has another issue that we haven’t discussed before. It’s highly not recommended for people having businesses. Revealing such software is too obvious and many countries impose fines for having unlicensed programs. That means that if you want to use computer for work – you need to pay for commercial licenses. And those ones are often really expensive, especially if you don’t live in first-world countries.
So if piracy is slowly dying – what can we do if we can’t afford programs we need? Of course I don’t ask this question for no reason. There is one another way. Maybe you’ve heard about cheap serial keys? Let’s say, $10 for Photoshop? Yeah, you’re right, you can’t get such program for such cost and get it legit. Keys sold for such price are in fact being sold hundreds times (every person gets the same key, maybe it’ll work, maybe not).
Those super-cheap keys aren’t trustable but… there are canals of distribution that go about unofficial or stolen but unique serial keys. The prices aren’t so “magnificent” as for the cheapest keys but you can find opportunity to buy needed program for even quarter a price. You can buy such key, connect it with your official software distribution account and get legal license without bothering yourself with cracking or risking a ban.
Shop that I can recommend straight from the heart is DARKSET. It’s a software market that sells the most popular programs like: Adobe package, Corel tools, Microsoft Office, Sony Catalyst, Symantec Norton or – with prices even $1000 lower than in official distribution – AutoDesk programs. You probably can find cheaper offers but programs you buy there – you can activate them and use at your work as legal software because serial keys they sell, they have from good sources.
It’s also worth mentioning that they have unique FOREX and stock tools you won’t find anywhere else – tools that are being used by best wildcatters. I think that checking their offer is really worth a while. If you like it, maybe you wouldn’t have to download pirated software anymore.
